Cambria LaRue was getting sick of the Underground. It was stifling, almost perpetually hot, and she was absolutely sick of it. She had received a minor injury a while back. She had completely healed now, even the healers said so, but she was still waiting for an order from her commanding officer. And Cambria had never been good at waiting. She was hardly a patient person. In fact, she was possibly one of the most impatient people you could find wandering around. She knew patience was a virtue and all that, her dear parents had tried to teach her all that, but it had always gone in one ear and right out the other.
She felt tears blur her vision where she stood on the edge of the lake. Her parents. She wiped angrily at her eyes. "Now's not the time to have a break down, Cambria she chided herself, angry that she had let memories of her parents get the better of her, here, in this place, where her reputation among the other soldiers of the underground mattered so much. She couldn't afford to just start crying about it, even if she had lost the two most important people in the world. The damned demons. Cambria hated them. More than the angels, even, and she hated the angels with every fiber of her being. The demons, though, she hated them with her soul. They were the ones who had taken her parents from her, and, well, suffice it to say it was a decision they would regret. If she ever came across the demons who were using her parents as their host bodies, she would kill them on sight, no matter how much it hurt, even if it killed her, she would see them ended, eradicated, and she would make it as painful as she possibly could.
Yes, Cambria LaRue had a bit of a bitter streak. It wasn't her fault, not really. She had always been a fiery, passionate girl, but now that passion had just been channeled into hate. A hatred for anything immortal, for anything that thought themselves above the humans of the earth, the humans who rightfully inhabited this place that was their home. Their home, not the damned immortals' battle field. It was almost unhealthy, the way Cambria hated them, the angels and demons, that is. She couldn't help it, though, it was as much a part of her as her next heartbeat, her next breath, her next blink.
Her face set in an angry frown, she kicked off her sandals and pulled off her tee shirt, leaving her in her bra and a pair of short shorts. She cast quickly around her, hoping that no one had seen, and plunged quickly into the lake, until she was in up to her chest. She wasn't sure she was supposed to be swimming here. After all, the lake was clean, probably used for their drinking water. But frankly, Cambria didn't care. She had to do something or she would go absolutely crazy, and she wasn't allowed outside the Underground yet. Commanding officer's orders. Again. Damned officers, she thought to herself, as she bobbed out to a place where she couldn't touch, treading water easily, churning the liquid with her arms and legs until she had a nice little white foam around her.
It felt good, after the stifling heat of the under ground for so long. It was refreshing and blissfully cool. Sure, Came liked the heat, but not that much. And not this kind of heat. There was just something about the Underground. Perhaps it wasn't so much hot as stuffy, and filled with the smells of a thousand sweating people. Yeah, not exactly pleasant, right? Cambria couldn't wait to get back above ground, back battling it out with the angels and demons who were so damned determined to take away her home, to destroy ever human being on the plant and to rid the world of the planet that the humans called homes. It was disgusting, really. Cambria couldn't wait to end it. And they would end it, the hunters. It would be their earth again, before long.

so far away we wait for the day for the lives all so wasted and gone Leigh was getting bored and restless. Lately there hadn't been much to do around here, and many of her soldiers were above ground and fighting. She would have been, too, were it not for the injured soldiers and possible new soldiers that she was in charge of below ground. Besides, her soldiers had orders and they would follow them - Leigh might have been a rebel herself but she wasn't the person you would want to disobey, and her soldiers knew that. Her footsteps were quick and brisk, though they didn't echo like she would have wanted them to and so she felt a little alone. She knew her way around the tunnels without needing a map, but now she was just walking with no particular destination. She didn't care if she ended up at the training rooms or the research labs or anywhere else. She just needed to get out of her bunker and go somewhere. She'd most likely turn around if she ended up anywhere near the medical rooms. She couldn't stand to see all those injured soldiers and captors and even trainees in the same place, no matter their condition. It killed her that people were getting hurt, but it was necessary. Earth would be back under human control, it had to be, and that was what mattered most.
Unfortunately, Katarina was in the medical rooms with an injury to her wrist, and that was what bothered Leighton the most. Her own sister, one of the two people she cared about most, part of her team, was injured and Leigh hadn't even known until Michael had come to get her. She should have been fighting with them, she should have been there when Kat had gotten hurt, and she hadn't been. She sighed, knowing that she couldn't keep dwelling on it. It had happened, and Leigh had to stay underground. Her soldiers needed her here. Those that were above ground had their orders and they had someone of authority to guide them. Leigh's place was here, and that was that. Shaking her head fiercely, she quickened her pace into a run and went straight, not caring where this tunnel would lead her. Her hands curled into fists reflexively when she heard something up ahead and she slowed, trying to process the noise. It was a splash. That meant she was close to the lake - or someone had just thrown water on something. Still, she kept her pace slower than before, alert and ready to defend herself if it was going to come to that. She hoped it wouldn't. Fighting with Leigh was a really bad idea - she was strong and experienced, and expert in combat and defense. That was why she was the head of the fighting division. She was an expert.
She blinked as her eyes adjusted to the slight lighting change in the cavern that housed the lake. Her muscles were tensed, her hands still balled into fists as her eyes scanned the area quickly, taking in everything, looking for shapes that might be hiding in the shadows. She found nothing and looked towards the lake, seeing a figure in the water and relaxing, walking forward so the she was standing on the very edge of the lake. She took in the girl's features, recognizing her almost instantly as one of the soldiers. If Leigh was right, this girl had gotten a minor injury at some point and was healed. That meant she probably wasn't very happy with Leigh, who couldn't afford to take chances. She wasn't letting her soldiers back above ground until she was positive they were in full physical condition and ready to fight. And this girl wasn't, not in Leighton's eyes. She may have healed her injury, but Leigh knew all too well that sending someone back too soon could re-open a wound or re-break a bone because the tissue was still fragile. That was why Leigh didn't let her soldiers back out when they were healed. The injury could be worse if it was re-created, and no one could take that chance. "Hey. You're a soldier, right?" Leigh asked, settling herself down on the edge of the lake.

Cambria was quite convinced that she was alone. And she liked it. Quiet time was hard to find in the Underground. With so many people in such a relatively small area of space, it was almost impossible to find a few moments to yourself, and what a person did find was stolen. You had to sneak off, much like Cambria had at that exact moment. And for someone like Cambria, who wasn't particularly social, it was even harder to deal with. She was a very independent person, and she tended to have a little bit of a me against the world complex. Unless her brother was involved. Then it became us against the world. But either way, she tended to be too independent for her own good, and she didn't particularly like people, especially when she was getting increasingly restless, eager to go out and finish the job she had started.
She tipped on to her back, floating in the most relaxed position there was. Unless you were dead and floating face first, but Cambria was not dead, and she was most certainly and healthily alive. She gasped, tipping over as she heard a sound near the mouth of the cave that lead to the bunkers and whatnot of the rest of the underground. She sank into the water, until just her nose and eyes were visible, but it was too late. She had already been spotted.
Blue eyes strained to figure out who had seen her, whether it was someone who would get her in trouble or not. "Hey. You're a soldier, right?" Ugh. She recognized the voice of Leighton Lock, the head of fighting. Inwardly she cursed, even as outwardly she spoke in the most respectful tone she could muster, considering her rather foul mood. "Yes, ma'am" she called across the water, stroking herself forward until she could touch, only coming far enough that the water still covered her chest. The officer would probably think she was skinny dipping, but oh well. Her bra was white and lacey, and it would be see through. She hadn't thought about that, but since that was the case, she might as well have been skinny dipping.
Of course, you could always thank god, if that was who to think, these days, considering he was the one who was allowing all this, that a woman had found her and not one of the men. That could have been a sticky situation. Well, stickier than it might already be. She wasn't sure how much trouble she was in. In her head, she cursed again, wondering if this would end up in even more time off the field. Could they afford to punish her in that manner? They needed every fighting hand they could get, every able bodied soul who could handle a weapon. And Cambria could more than handle them. She was an asset to the Hunters, if she did say so herself. Not that she was any good judge, considering she could be a bit arrogant at the best of times. Still, the million dollar question remained: would they punish her by keeping her out of combat? Would they punish her at all? Ugh. Cambria hated unanswered questions. She waited, chest deep in the cool water of the lake, while she waited for her officer to speak. Let her be the one to break the silence....

so far away we wait for the day for the lives all so wasted and gone Leighton let out a laugh, grinning and shaking her head. "Hey now, I'm eighteen, hardly old enough to be considered a 'ma'am', but hey, at least you've got a sense of respect," she called back, leaning back on her hands. She always found it quite funny when her soldiers addressed her as 'ma'am', just like in the military, even though she was only eighteen and she didn't look much older at that. Still, she knew it was simply because it was respectful to address your commanding officer as that, and anyone who didn't address her as such the first time around was considered disrespectful in her eyes. In the case of Katarina and Mickey, well, she had power over them, but they were family and they were always going to call her Leigh, period, end of story. That was perfectly fine by her, she liked it that way. She wasn't much older than her soldiers - in fact, some were older than her - but it didn't take a genius to know why Leigh was in the position of power she was in. Disrespecting her meant getting your sorry ass kicked, and it was very clear that Leigh could keep someone in the medical bunkers for a month if she felt like it. She could kill someone with her foot if she needed to, and not by stepping on their throat. She knew a lot of ways to fight that the soldiers didn't, she had amazing stamina and speed and was hyper-aware of her surroundings. She knew what she was doing and no one would dare question her authority. That much was perfectly clear. Even new soldiers fresh out of training knew better than to mess with her, as Leigh made frequent visits to the training facilities to offer her help and expertise.
Leighton couldn't help but wonder just what this soldier was doing in the water, although she'd gone swimming in the lake a fair few times herself. It was used for the drinking water, among other things, yes, but it wasn't like she did much. She liked to float there in the cool water and just relax, so it didn't particularly bother her that the girl was in the water. What bothered her was not knowing why. Leigh liked to know things, and when she didn't, she tended to get very annoyed. "So what exactly compelled you to get in the lake? Not that, you know, I'm going to tell anyone. It's not like I haven't done the exact same thing," she assured her, a small smile on her lips. All she wanted to know was why. She didn't care, nor was she going to tell Mina or anyone else. It wasn't like it really mattered all that much. "You were hurt, right?" she asked curiously, not doubting that she was right in guessing that. It was the only reason aside from misbehavior that her soldiers would be underground. That, or they were concerned about someone and had stayed to make sure they were okay. Still, very few of her soldiers were stuck underground by their own choice; they were soldiers for a reason. They wanted to fight and take back what was rightfully theirs, and a majority of them, no matter how concerned, left their friends in the care of the healers and went back to fight and get revenge. With that in mind, Leigh waited patiently for the girl's answer.
