[/blockquote]It about broke Cambria's heart to look across the city she loved. It was hardly recognizable as Phoenix anymore, the capital of Arizona, her city. The angels and the demons had laid it to absolute waste in that first battle, had it only been a few months ago? Damn, it felt like years. Cambria felt 100 years old in that moment, staring out across the city that was no longer city so much as rubble and ruin. It was horrible to look at.
A chill passed over her shoulders as she watched something move in the city beneath her. Life still survived there, if you could call angels and demons "life." It was a stretch. And it wouldn't be life for long, not if Cambria had much to say about it. She was determined to get the demons and angels off of earth. They could fight their battle elsewhere. What right did they have to be here, ruining life for the people? Not that they cared, since human life was so far below demons and angels. Damn them all to hell, as far as Cambria cared. Just get them off Earth.
She shifted her pack, the one with all her supplies in it, food in case she got stuck in the city, a first aid kit, her radio to keep in touch with base, and any other odds and ends she might need. An extra change of clothes, an extra pair of boots, some supplies to get samples for the researchers if the opportunity arose. Most importantly, though, was the thing she held in her hands. It looked like a simple pistol, a Ruger revolver, to be exact, but it packed more of a punch than just any old revolver. Cambria smirked slightly as she spun the thing around on her finger. It had taken her forever to learn, and her brother was forever getting after her for doing it. "What if you set it off, Came?!" but it was oh so satisfying. Plus it made her look more intimidating, like she actually knew what she was doing with thing. And boy, did she. Of course extra amo could also be found in her bag, and an MK16 was strapped across her back, beneath the pack. It wasn't exactly handy to get to, but the revolver would do her until she could find some kind of cover and get the MK down. And there were plenty of places for her to hide down there. But that also meant there were lots of places for the rats to hide, too.
A grim look settled on the girl's face. Her blue eyes were steely and determined. It was not the kind of expression one expected to see on such an innocent, baby face. It was almost scary, and it was certainly unnerving. Those blue eyes looked like they would have been friendly and lively, but no, they were hard and steely. The eyes of a falcon, or a hawk. The eyes of a Hunter.
She shifted her pack on her back and slipped the revolver into hits holster at her waist. It was rather a heartbreaking picture, to see this, a girl in the prime of her life, someone who should have been enjoying parties and soccer games and high school drama, was instead out, risking her life and fighting a war against supernatural beings, immortals. It was sad. This wasn't how things were supposed to be. No, not at all. Earth, for all its heart break and terror, was a good place. This was not how it was supposed to be.
She closed her eyes, letting a shudder ripple through her body as she prepared herself for what was to come, whatever that was. She reached up and pushed a strand of blond hair away from her eyes, tucking it behind her ear. Then she took the first steps toward the city. Most of the time, the Hunters worked with a partner. Cambria and her brother usually worked as a team, but he was laid up back in the Underground. She felt half naked without him here, though. He was her other half, her better half, she thought with a wry smile. Together, they were practically unbeatable. No angel or demon could bring them down when they were together. Truth be told, it was scarier to be here by herself. She had done it before, yes, but still, the responsibility was so much bigger, knowing that she had to watch her own back, that her brother wasn't here to do it for her. That was part of why they were such an unstoppable team. They looked out for each other more than they looked out for themselves. Now, though, she didn't have that buffer. "Here we go, Came" she murmured to herself, as she took the first steps into the city, senses straining, every nerve and muscle in her body tingling and on high alert. This was it....
